Tendon Injury
Since practicing self-isolation measures during the COVID-19 precautions, have you suddenly increased the amount of daily exercise you’re doing? Has it caused an increase in pain in your body that wasn’t previously there? There’s a possibility you may have injured or irritated a tendon.
A tendon is a form of connective tissue that joins a muscle to a bone. Some of the major tendons you may be familiar with are the Achilles tendon (below your calf) or patellar tendon (below your kneecap). Pain in these areas can often be caused by a sudden increase or change in load to your usual exercise routine.
Thankfully our team of highly skilled Physiotherapist’s will be able to accurately assess, diagnose and treat tendon injuries. This would typically involve assessing what your current exercise regime is, a physical assessment of what is currently causing you issues and set a management strategy from there. This would involve prescribing exercises for you to do at home as well as a guided program that aims to gradually load/deload your tendon so that you can return to your desired amount/intensity of exercise.
